Discover the Secret to Banishing Self-Doubt & Unlocking Your Productivity

Stop Wishing and Start Doing: Unleash Your Hidden Potential by Solving the Procrastination Puzzle...A User Guide to Overcoming Procrastination

Procrastination was once a struggle for me, but now I can help you...

I was once like you. I'd sit at my desk, glance at the mountain of tasks, and deadlines looming over me. Often, instead of tackling them head-on, I'd find myself scrolling through social media or aimlessly doodling. My "to-do" list grew longer while my "done" list remained stagnant.

I'd try to get myself going but every effort seemed to fail as I gave into feelings of perfectionism, wanting everything to be "in place" before I started. I often suffered from a lack or urgency waiting for the right time so I could get myself settled and ready to focus.

Sometimes I tended to low-value tasks, what I call "busy work." Most of the time I would work on things when I was in the mood to deal with them. It was the vicious cycle of procrastination that left me feeling drained, unproductive, demotivated, and ultimately ashamed for missing deadlines. Mostly, I would feel disappointed because I knew better; and as a leader, I was expected to do better. Needless to say, this is also not a good strategy to build a business. 🤦🏽‍♀️

The Negative Emotions

The Backend

If you're still reading this, you've likely experienced the emotional turmoil that procrastination can induce. It's a ruthless, nagging beast that causes endless stress, gnawing guilt, and a constant feeling of underachievement. Procrastination can lead to regret, disappointment, and shame.

You start each day with a growing list of tasks and end with most of them unchecked, a victim to distraction and delay. Of course, in the technology age, distractions are plenty. The question isn't if your mind will wander from place to place, it becomes how you redirect yourself to stay focused on getting done, while doing the things that matter most, first.

Perhaps you've already tried traditional methods to combat procrastination?...

Setting deadlines
Rewarding yourself
Trying to power through it with sheer will.

But these solutions are often band-aids on a deeper wound, and the root problem remains untouched. As with most bad habits, it is necessary to do the work to find out the cause(s).

Willpower isn't enough. You need a solution that truly understands your struggles, addresses them at their core, and provides a structured approach to overcoming them. Are you ready?

Understanding Common Reasons for Procrastination

Lack of Confidence

Feeling the imposter syndrome — like you’re not qualified for your work or are less valuable than others who "earned" their success — may cause you to avoid getting out front and taking the lead. You are capable. You have what it takes. Be patient with yourself as you evolve. Stand tall in your authentic brilliance, and get things done.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal response to stress. But when it becomes hard to control and it negatively affects your day-to-day life, it can soon become disabling. I have found the more anxiety I experience about a task, the more likely I’ll put it off until later. This is particularly true if it is a task that can potentially be judged by others. This is when procrastination becomes the most aggressive. If you become preoccupied with the "what ifs" or "what will they think," it's over before you get started. Anxiety leads to the fear of failing and fear of failing leads to perfection. All of the above is rooted in low self-esteem and insecurity.

Fear of Failing

Do you avoid doing certain tasks because you’re afraid of failing? Perhaps it is fueled by a lack of confidence or perfectionism. Unsupported or competitive environments can also cause a fear of failure. Consider whether your life promotes positive reflections and work-life balance or whether you’re dealing with toxic productivity and unhelpful (self-)criticism. We know, as a business owner you have courage. However, when you are worrying about failing it may cause you to put off following up with a prospect, entering a new market, or submitting a loan or grant application. Refuse to allow fear to get in your way.

Perfectionism

Perfectionism is a mental state where you expect to act the best and make the best decisions at all times. Social pressures, childhood upbringing, competition, and even social media, all influence how we view ourselves and how we think should show up and be in the world.

Perfectionism is a maladaptive practice. It is typically more harmful than helpful because you have set yourself up to measure things against unrealistic expectations.

Unfortunately, perfectionists tend to stress more and achieve less. The fear of imperfection thwarts success.

Before you read the book:

Identify what bores you. It makes sense that if you perceive an activity as boring or unpleasant, you’re far more likely to put it off until later.
You lack faith in your abilities. Believing that you can't carry out tasks is essential to functioning. If your sense of self-efficacy is low, you’re less likely to begin a task, let alone, see it through.
Label your anxieties. Social anxiety, for example, can also contribute to procrastination. The fear of judgment or embarrassment can cause you to avoid scheduling meetings, completing joint projects, or attending a networking event.
Pin distractions in your environment. They can prevent you from focusing on the task at hand. Many of us can relate to the lure of social media over a dreaded activity, like balancing your checkbook and paying bills. Or doing "busy" work rather than completing monthly reports.

After doing the work:

Understand the different types and causes of procrastination, and how to address them; with patience, self-empathy, self-compassion, courage and self-love.
Gain an in-depth understanding of your procrastination patterns along with tools to break free from the chains of inaction
Reclaim control over your time and finally check off those long-lingering tasks on your to-do list.
Receive actionable strategies tailored to your unique procrastination patterns, aiding you in becoming more focused, more productive, and less stressed with more time to enjoy life.
Begin experiencing higher self-esteem, greater satisfaction in your business, and personal life, ultimately, allowing space for a more time to engage in activities that bring you peace & joy.
